Spike TV, the channel for guys who like a high percentage of the things they see to be on fire, premiered Scrappers last night. The series looks at the recently booming scrap metal industry. For me, it’s the first reality show with a basis in my reality. I’ve never danced with the stars or been a bounty hunter, but, well, I kind of love scrapping.

And Scrappers captures what I love about it: The nicked-knuckle frustration and constantly questioning if the job is worth it (“@#!$ getting hurt all day, for a 12-dollar refrigerator?”), the rush when it turns out to be, the people you meet. Oh God, the people you meet.

The show suffers a bit from reality television’s easy out: drama derived from characters’ buffoonery and interpersonal bickering rather than from actual events—always easier to film an argument, which is essentially talk, than to wait it out and capture something happening. So we get a whole segment of fighting over Darren’s mistake of a door not being able to close. But we do get a sense of the hunt. And if anyone who’s ever swung a hammer is wondering why these guys are using vans and not flatbed trucks, it’s because the reality is that scrapping’s largely a jerry-rigged industry. And a lot of the pros who do it are boneheaded amateurs like myself.

If you’re looking for a junkyard in your area, OldRide.com has some pretty good resources to help you in your search. And if you can’t make it out to the junkyard, they have some cool pics of rusty old cars for you to gaze at. Enjoy!

An office chair for all you Ferrari Sports Car enthusiast. If you can afford a Ferrari, my guess is that you could afford this luxury office chair with a price tag of a mere $8,ooo! The chair, made by OMP, is a real Ferrari 360 Challenge car seat.

Every one of the seats started its life inside an actual Ferrari, and now each slightly-used throne is placed atop a carbon-fiber office chair frame, giving you adjustable armrests, along with the usual seat-height and tilt adjustments.

For those of you, like my self, who are unable to afford and a bit more realistic to go our and spend 8g’s on a chair, I suggest we go to the junkyard and pull a seat out of an old beater and make do.

Oldride is a wonderful site for car enthusiasts and are geared towards the collector car community. They have a lot of information and resources about classic cars as well as classic cars for sale. The ease of use of this website is a tremendous plus. You can search or browse for vehicles for sale in a few easy clicks and their pages aren’t cluttered with useful information. Along with searching for vehicles for sale. You can also list your car for sale for only $9.95. And that is good until the vehicle sells. I recently listed my classic truck for sale in June ’09 and I sold it in less than two months. I had my truck on various other websites, but the buyer found it on Oldride. They create a level of safety and security when selling online that is hard to find other places, plus their customer service is amazing. It was very easy to place my listing with just a few simple steps and no excess mumbo jumbo that can be found on other sites such as eBay where you have to complete several pages before your ad is place. I will definitely be using Oldride again to list future vehicles for sale.

For those looking to buy a classic car or truck OldRide.com is the place for you. They have an array of classic cars, hot rods, and muscle cars and a lot, lot more.

I recently ran across a great gift idea for the guy or gal who loves classic cars, especially those cars left to rust away in fields, yards or junkyards. The gift is a 2010 Calendar with great photos of rusty cars. Inside the calendar, you can find images (such as the one shown above) of Classic Cars, Muscle Cars, Classic Trucks and potential Rat Rods that have been left to rust away. Each calendar month is represented by some of the rarest and most desirable American Cars from as early as the 1920s thru the glory years of the 50′s and 60′s to the muscle car era of the 70′s.

Not only is this a great gift idea (who couldn’t use a calendar) it is also very inexpensive at only $8.95 plus they will even ship it to you for FREE! This is sure to be a gift that classic car & truck fans will appreciated and treasure throughout the 2010 year and beyond. If you are interested in ordering one, you can visit OldRide.com, a classic car website, and get yours today.

License plates are fast becoming a hot collector’s item among enthusiasts and plates can date back to the early 1900s. Earlier plates had a porcelain finish or they were made of flat metal. By the 1920s plates were made of tin, steel or aluminum and printed on embossed metal plates. This method of printing plates has remained much of the same up to the present and in the late 70s early 80s plates began introducing reflective sheeting.

Many things are important when collecting plates. Color-origin-age-shape-condition-history. If you are searching for collector plates, you many find plates at your local junkyard or dump, flea markets, garage sales, online auctions, antique stores and swap meets. Another great resource of information about collector plates is the Automobile License Plate Collector’s Association (ALPCA) who are dedicated to the promotion of license plate collecting and research along with the exchange of information and plates as well as the fraternal benefits of sharing a common hobby interest with others throughout the world. There, you can find an online Grading Guide to determine the condition of a collector plate from Mint to Poor. To find out License Plate Values, there is a guide book which can be purchased online which is based upon the work and experience of Bob Crisler it has become an invaluable guide to collectors in establishing prices of collector plates.
